The signs of Mesothelioma, a type of cancer, usually take between 20 and 50 years to develop. Unfortunately, this delay can prevent the detection of the disease and lead to misdiagnoses. The first symptoms are similar to many other illnesses, such as colds or flu, and can therefore be rejected. Other characters of mesothelioma are respiratory problems, such as pain in the chest and difficulty breathing.

The three kinds of mesothelioma have slightly different symptoms. Pleural Mesothelioma effusion, develops, coming after a pleural effusion, a buildup of fluid in the pleura of the chest, which often cause symptoms, such as the following: respiratory complaints, the difficulties with swallowing disorders, shortness of breath, persistent cough, weight loss, fever, cough Blood, rasping, and pain in the chest. The signs and symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma, a cancer of the mucous membrane of the abdomen, include weight loss, bump and abdominal pain that are caused by ascites (fluid in the abdominal cavity), and intestinal occlusion, blood clotting disorders, anemia and fever. Lastly, the rarest form of mesothelioma, pericardial mesothelioma, includes mild to severe pain in the chest, a cough that won't go away, shortness of breath, palpitations, and fatigue.

For the diagnosis, whether it involves the symptoms of a patient with any of the above mesothelioma, when compared to other forms of cancer is a little less difficult. An X-ray or ultrasound examination can be used. If the results of these methods are not conclusive, a biopsy can determine with certainty if cancer is there or not. There is currently no cure for mesothelioma, clinical trials and research are currently being undertaken.
